Covasna County sits on one of Romania's most precious agricultural reserves. The potato is not just another crop — it is a profession with generational roots and a strategic regional product.
Ch. I · The Soil
I.

The Soil

Volcanic land, mineral waters.

The Întorsura Buzăului basin, the Târgu Secuiesc depression, the Brețcu and Brateș plateaus — volcanic soils rich in potassium, underground mineral water, real winters. Geography partly explains the quality of the Covasna potato.

SCDC Târgu Secuiesc, the local research station, certifies varieties adapted to the climate.

The Farms

Cernat, Zabala and beyond.

From the families of Cernat and Zabala to the large mechanised cooperatives — over 60 producers exhibit at the festival. Farmers Market open to the public, with tastings, direct sales and processing workshops.

Meanwhile, national retailers — Kaufland, Lidl, Profi, Metro — discuss the short supply chain with producers.
